Duke Energy planning to build major substation at Villages of Southern Oaks

The Wildwood City Commission blessed a plan Monday night that will allow Duke Energy to build a new substation complex.

The Wildwood City Commission approved a plan Monday night that will allow Duke Energy to build a new substation complex on a 95.48-acre parcel generally located north of Florida’s Turnpike on the Sumter/Lake County line.

The Southern Oaks Substation includes a 19.55-acre substation yard, a 1.62-acre laydown yard and a future 2.32-acre SECO substation yard. The plan also calls for a paved driveway, stormwater and related improvements on the 95.48-acre property, which is generally located north of Florida’s Turnpike on the Sumter/Lake County line.

The request also was heard earlier Monday during the Planning & Zoning Board meeting and received a favorable recommendation to send it along to the commission. That meeting was held Monday after being rescheduled because of Hurricane Dorian.
