A Villager who said he has been “appalled” by the actions of the Sumter County Commission has filed paperwork to take on an incumbent who is seeking re-election.
Charles Kasner, of the Village of Dunedin, attended commission meetings this past week and back in July where Sumter commissioners discussed a 25 percent tax hike.
“It had never before occurred to me to run and be involved in politics. I can’t believe what I am seeing. Someone has to run and do something,” Kasner said.
The Canadian native became an America citizen after 9-11.
“This is my country,” he said.
Four years ago, he purchased his home in The Villages.

Kasner will be taking on Villager Steve Printz, who has already filed paperwork to seek a second time. Printz made the motion last week in support of the proposed tax increase. His motion received the commission’s unanimous support.
“County government should be working for the residents. They are working for the ‘boss,’” Kasner said.
Like Printz, Kasner will be running as a Republican in the 2020 contest.
