President Trump has rescheduled the visit to The Villages that he postponed in August.
The White House announced Thursday that the president will be at the Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. to talk about Medicare reform. Trump originally was supposed to speak at The Sharon on Aug. 6, but he canceled that visit after mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, left 31 people dead and more than 50 wounded. The president instead visited both of those cities and the White House promised to reschedule his Villages appearance.
In the August visit, Trump was supposed to land aboard Air Force One at Ocala International Airport. He was expected to talk about Medicare to a small, invitation-only crowd that included a long list of Villages brass and department heads. He also had planned to hold a more intimate meeting on Medicare with 10 members of Villagers for Trump, the grassroots organization that formed in The Villages a little more than a year ago that now boasts more than 1,700 members and clearly has become the choice of area Republicans interested in getting involved in GOP politics.
Villagers for Trump is scheduled to hold its 2nd annual Trump Day Dinner just hours after the president’s scheduled visit. Actor Stephen Baldwin, a huge Trump supporter, will be the keynote speaker at the sold-out event, which is being held from 6-9 p.m. at the Eisenhower Recreation Center.
Villagers for Trump Founder David Gee said Baldwin met with Trump on Thursday and told him about the club and the dinner they were having in his honor. Trump was made aware of the first dinner that was held last year when he received a copy of the official program while vacationing over the Thanksgiving weekend at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
“We are hoping Mr. Trump can address the club after the event at The Sharon,” Gee said. “Our dinner promises to be a celebration of his visit and the leadership he’s brought our country.”
Villagers for Trump Executive Director Sid Bowdidge agreed.
With President Trump’s visit, comes an excitement level which is off the charts,” said Bowdidge, who in 2016 ran Trump’s ground campaign in New Hampshire and then served on his campaign strike team that traveled across the country. “The more the socialist Democrats try to take him out, the more the American people love him. And why wouldn’t they? He’s the greatest president this country has ever seen.”
