A 31-year-old Lady Lake man was jailed Thursday and charged with reckless driving after a road rage incident was caught on the victim’s dash camera.
Hector W. Acevedo was arrested after a Lake County sheriff’s deputy watched footage of the incident recorded by camera. The deputy reported that Acevedo tailgated the victim with his 2009 white Jeep Cherokee “in a willful and wanton disregard” for the safety of others and property, a sheriff’s office report states.
The sheriff’s deputy said Acevedo also made several attempts to strike the victim’s vehicle or have him run into the back of his SUV while traveling north on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Register Road in Fruitland Park. He said the incident continued until the motorists reached Griffin View Drive in Lady Lake, the report says.
The video showed Acevedo swerving at the victim multiple times and almost losing control of his own vehicle. Acevedo also was seen slamming on his breaks twice as he “attempted to get the victim to run into the rear of his vehicle.” And at one point as the victim made an evasive maneuver to try to avoid contact with Acevedo, the front of his vehicle brushed against the rear bumper of Acevedo’s SUV, the report says.
Acevedo, who lives in the 150 block of Tara Oaks Circle in Lady Lake, was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail, where he was charged with reckless driving. He was released early Friday morning on $500 bond and is due in court on Oct. 15 at 8 a.m. to answer to the charge.
