A Summerfield man with more than 20 previous arrests since 2000 is back in the Marion County Jail after a 911 operator overheard him threatening a woman who was reporting that he battered her.
Todd Allen Roberts, 39, was charged with felony battery (second or subsequent offense) after the incident, which happened Sept. 13. A probable cause affidavit was issued at that time and he was arrested Monday.
On the day of the incident, the victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Roberts became angry when she asked him where her phone was. She said she tried to separate herself from him by going into her bedroom and closing the door, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim said Roberts entered the bedroom and told her he was done with her. The victim told him that was good, and he responded by getting on the bed and slapping her with an open hand above her left eye. The deputy observed an area on the victim’s face between her left eyebrow and her hairline that was red and appeared to be missing some skin, the report said.
The victim was already on the phone with 911 when Roberts told her he was going to kill her if she gets him sent to jail. That statement was heard by the 911 operator. Roberts left the scene in a Jeep that the victim had purchased but not registered, according to the report.
The victim’s roommate said she heard Roberts yelling at the victim in the bedroom and came to check on her. She said she saw Roberts hit the victim, and that she put herself between Roberts and the victim because she believed he wouldn’t hit her, the report said.
The deputy asked the victim if Roberts had anything in his hands when he threatened to kill her. She said he didn’t, but she was afraid he would kill her, according to the report.
Roberts is being held on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 5.
