Boys recovering after ATV crash on Rolling Acres Road

Caiden McPeters is recovering after the ATV crash on Rolling Acres Road.

Two boys are recovering after the ATV they were riding collided with a car Monday afternoon on Rolling Acres Road.

The boys – 12-year-old Caiden McPeters and 14-year-old Kaileb Gilliam – were airlifted from the scene and helicoptered to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando. At the time of the airlift, the boys were in serious but stable condition, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is conducting an investigation into the accident.

McPeters had been driving the 1984 Honda ATV at about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Sunshower Lane and Rolling Acres Road. Gilliam was riding as a passenger.

The FHP accident report has not been completed, but an FHP spokesman confirmed that the ATV collided with a 2016 Acura driven by Thomas Segrich of The Villages.

The boys had been riding this ATV at the time of the accident.

The crash halted traffic on Rolling Acres Road as Lake County Fire and Rescue and an ambulance crew got the boys to a nearby field where a landing zone was set up for the airlift.
