Haleigh Victoria Jones

A pregnant Summerfield woman who called law enforcement to report a disturbance was the one arrested after she admitted to throwing the first punch.

Haleigh Victoria Jones, 25, was charged with simple battery after the incident, which happened Tuesday. Jones told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she wanted law enforcement to force the victim to leave. When asked to provide specifics, she said, “Great. I’m probably going to jail,” according to the sheriff’s office report.

Jones told the deputy the victim had been antagonizing her all morning by calling her names and insulting her. She said the victim then sat in a lawn chair in the yard and continued to yell insults. Jones said she came out of the house and struck the victim, the report said.

Jones said the victim then punched her in the mouth and the pair separated. Jones said she is a few weeks pregnant and that it is a felony for the victim to hit her back, according to the report.

The victim said she stayed in the front yard in a lawn chair to avoid Jones, but Jones came outside and attacked her by punching her in the face. The victim admitted she might have hit Jones to get her off her, but her intention was to just push her away, the report said.

Jones was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released the next day on her own recognizance. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 3.
