Members of The Villages Vintage Car Club on Tuesday presented the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office with an $1,100 check to support the Kids, Cops and Christmas program.
The Villages Vintage Car Club, which is the largest classic car club in The Villages, has long been a supporter of the sheriff’s programs for children during the holidays, said Daryl Ware, club president.

Ware’s group raised funds through contributions from club members as well as through events such as the Halloween Trunk or Treat program. The classic car guys and gals also raised funds throughout the year at local classic car shows as well as at their regular meetings which are held the third Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Truman Recreation Center. While club members own more than 150 classic cars, ownership of such a car is not required for membership, Ware said.
The Kids, Cops and Christmas program teams sheriff’s deputies with area youth in need. The funds are used to buy gifts for themselves and their families. Not only does the program help the children have a Merry Christmas, it also builds a positive relationship between the younger generation and the law enforcement professionals who help keep them safe.
Donations to the program can be dropped off at the sheriff’s annex at the intersection of County Road 466 and Morse Boulevard.
