Clubs come together to make Christmas merrier for children in need

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Annex in The Villages was filled to capacity Monday with toys for children of all ages.

Individuals and organizations have been dropping off gifts since Thanksgiving and Monday was no exception as two Villages clubs with a long history of generous donations arrived at the sheriff’s annex at County Road 466 and Morse Boulevard.

Several members of the 280-member The Villages Mustang Club brought dozens of toys which had been collected at the club’s Christmas party.

Lt. Robert Siemer accepted the gifts and thanked the club members. Siemer said that he was grateful for the club’s donation as that their gifts would enable some children to have a happy Christmas this year.

For the past eight years, the Villages Classic Kart Club has also aided the sheriff’s office in helping families in need during the Christmas season. This year they raised $1,000 from 50-50 drawing at club meetings. Many of the 90 members of the Classic Kart Club also donated toys to the cause.

“Lots of families cannot afford gifts and this will help them have a happier holiday,” Costa said.
