To the Editor:
We currently rent a home in The Villages to discover what life is like here.
The great majority of people are friendly and courteous. What amazes me is some of the careless activities some of the Villagers are involved in in light of the Coronavirus.
Our neighbors have frequent parties at their home in what sounds like several people. Many of you are gathering in the town squares to talk, sit in groups and have lunch. Are you all forgetting that you need to be 6 feet apart from each other, avoid groups, and be really careful eating take-out? Are you watching the news?
Coronavirus is air-borne, meaning that someone sitting across from you can transmit the virus – they may not even be aware they are carrying it. Coronavirus can spread from take-out food if your cook talked or sneezed over your food, or didn’t wash their hands well enough. I see employees handing customers their food and exchanging payment without rubber gloves or face masks. You touch the cup, bag, and packaging and dive right in – you may have the virus on your hands while you eat.
It seems that Villagers are really accustomed to social groups, and it must be very hard for people
to give that up, but please be considerate and stay home if it’s not in your DNA to avoid gatherings.
This is an unprecedented situation we are all in, one that we have never seen in our lifetime. Please, for the sake of others, follow the guidelines of stay-at-home unless necessary or for exercise until we can get over this. You don’t want to give the virus to anyone intentionally, so why not be as careful as you can during this trying time. The sooner we get over this, the sooner you can get back to all the activities The Villages has to offer.
