Edward Poole

A transient man from Tampa riding in an Uber was arrested at a Citizens First Bank facility in The Villages.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 2:38 p.m. Wednesday to the Citizens First Bank drive-up facility at Lake Sumter Landing where they found 50-year-old Edward Russell Poole sitting in an Uber in Lane 4. Poole told deputies he had been working on houses and was trying to cash checks he had received for the work. He said he had cashed checks the previous day at a different location.

A bank teller said the check that Poole was attempting to cash was false. It had the same number as a check that Poole had cashed the previous day. The teller said a computer search revealed Poole had cashed two checks the previous day at two different locations.

He was arrested on charges of fraud and grand theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $8,000.
