A 62-year-old Summerfield woman spent Wednesday night in jail after being caught with heroin during a traffic stop.
Deborah D’Alessandro Staph, of 15030 SE 103rd Ave., was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Marion County sheriff’s deputies saw Staph driving a 2007 Silver Mercury and fail to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of SE Timucuan Road and SE Sunset Harbor Road.
After being told the reason for the traffic stop, Staph gave the deputies permission to search her vehicle. They found two black purses in the trunk and Staph said they belonged to her. One purse contained a pink and black zebra print hard case wallet with a plastic straw and two plastic baggies inside. Also in the purse was a piece of folded foil, which contained a brown wax-like substance that tested positive for heroin, according to the sheriff’s office report.
After being read her Miranda rights, Staph admitted to previously using heroin and said the brown substance might be “old.” She said she has used the straw in the pink and black zebra case to snort heroin, the report said.
Staph was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Thursday on $3,000 bond. No court information was available.
