A cashier at Sam’s Club in Lady Lake allegedly pocketed more than $4,000 claiming he was trying to help his family with bills.
Jorge Torres Jr., 26, of Ocoee, stole $4,231 between March 12 and April 23 in his position as a cashier at the store, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Ocoee had been signed onto the cash register when the money went missing. A review of surveillance showed Torres taking the money from the cash register and putting it into his pocket. He took the money at 11 different times on seven different days, the report said.
The native New Yorker told police that he took the money because he was trying to help his family with bills.
He was arrested on a charge of grand theft and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $2,000 bond.
