Eleanor Frieda Vogel Gillespie

Eleanor Frieda Vogel Gillespie

It is with sadness that the family of Eleanor Frieda Vogel Gillespie announces her passing on Sunday, October 25, 2020.

Eleanor was born in Philadelphia to Frieda and George Vogel on June 10, 1930. She was married to Daniel Joseph Gillespie on October 13, 1951, and they celebrated 63 years together until his death. Eleanor was a busy mother transporting and raising her four children. She was a kind and loyal friend and remained in touch with family and friends as her travels through life took her from Pennsylvania, to New Jersey and Maryland, and finally to The Villages, Florida.

Eleanor thrived at The Villages, joining a number of clubs including the Maryland Club, Hacienda East Women’s Club, and the Hummel Club. She golfed and lunched with a steady group of friends and delighted in games such as Bunco, Hand and Foot, and Mahjong. Eleanor and Dan enjoyed visiting foreign countries and Hilton Head Beach for twenty-eight years of family reunions. She was fond of flowers, especially her pink roses and African violets which adorned her home. Eleanor was a devoted member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church and leaned on her faith in God to carry her through life.

Eleanor leaves behind three daughters, Kathleen (James Blanche-deceased), Cheryl (Mark Kenny), Deborah (Joel Frey), son Daniel, III, five grandchildren, Rebecca (Michael Istvan), Sarah (Nathan Donohoe), Christina (Jeremy Hopkins), Molly, Daniel, IV, two great-grandsons, Liam Istvan, and Mark Donohoe, two half-sisters, Irene and Janet, and many loving extended family members and friends.

She will be interned with her husband, Daniel, at Bushnell National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to Cornerstone Villages Hospice House.
