A Weirsdale man turned himself in last week for allegedly shattering an apartment window when he got angry during an argument.

On the afternoon of Jan. 15, an officer with the Lady Lake Police Department responded to Rolling Acres Apartments, located at 824 U.S. Hwy. 466, regarding vandalism, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

A woman stated she was in a verbal altercation with 36-year-old Michael Henry Chavis when she went to lock the door. He got angry, went up to the apartment window and shattered the glass, causing about $400 in damage. She also saw him smash a liquor bottle in the parking lot, the affidavit said.

During the investigation, the officer was unable to make contact with Chavis, the affidavit said. He ultimately turned himself in to Lake County Jail on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Chavis was served with a Lake County warrant charging him with criminal mischief. He was released from jail after posting $1,000 bond.
