An annoyed driver was arrested after repeatedly honking at a police officer.

Anthony Asturi, 51, who lives in the PepperTree development in Wildwood, was driving a maroon Ford Mustang a about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when he came upon a police officer who had initiated an unrelated traffic stop at the Sun Stop parking lot at U.S. 301 and Pepper Tree Terrace, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Asturi repeatedly honked his horn at the officer. Asturi was apparently upset that his path to the gas station was blocked.

The officer motioned for Asturi to back up and use a different entrance. Asturi became “verbally argumentative” with the officer and told the officer it was “illegal for law enforcement to be blocking the entrance,” according to the arrest report. The officer loudly commanded Asturi not to interfere with his investigation.

A second officer arrived and Asturi began to argue with that officer. The second officer, who is a female, walked to the back of Asturi’s vehicle to get the license plate number. Asturi put the vehicle in reverse and nearly struck the lady officer.

He drove to his home at 9708 Pepper Tree Trail where he was arrested on two counts of resisting arrest. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
