A motorcyclist from Maine has died as the result of a crash which occurred near The Villages.

The 50-year-old motorcyclist from Penobscot, Maine was riding the motorcycle at 11:28 p.m. Monday on U.S. 301 in the area of County Road 42 when he failed to maintain a lane and struck a concrete curb, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist lost control of the bike and it overturned, landing on the center median of U.S. 301.

He was transported as a trauma alert to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he later died of injuries suffered in the crash. The report indicated he had not been wearing a helmet.
