
Stephen Bruce Spiegelglass of Summerfield, Fl passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the age of 89. He was born on December 30, 1935 in St Louis Missouri where he shared life with two brothers and a sister, Mel, Laurie and Barry.
Stephen attended University of Missouri and began work with the family business, Spiegelglass Construction Company in St Louis. At that time, Spiegelglass Construction was a rescue and restoration business. Today it is a thriving construction business in St. Louis, however, Stephen chose a different path. He became a buyer, then a merchandise manager in menswear for Famous Barr, the May Department Store in St. Louis. He continued to enhance the men’s fashion business in St. Louis by opening Forsyth’s, a menswear store in St. Louis and later becoming a menswear wholesaler by producing men’s swimwear and sportswear in South Florida under the label, Stephen Williams Sportswear.
He was actively involved in the Men’s Golf Club, Nature Explorers, The Movement group and the Poker Club within Del Webb Spruce Creek. Poker was his passion and his Tuesday night game brought him great happiness until a week before his death.
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Ann Spiegelglass, his Father, Harold Spiegelglass and his brother Melford Spiegelglass.
He is survived by his wife, Clare Vrba Spiegelglass, his siblings Laurie Glazier and husband Bruce, brother Barry Spiegelglass and Renee and Sharon Spiegelglass of St. Louis; his daughters Robin Huff and partner Johnny Carrante of Phoenix AZ ; daughter Shannon Shapiro, wife of Dr. Jay Shapiro of Austin Texas; stepdaughter Jill Collage and husband Bill Collage of Sag Harbor NY, stepson Doug Gilg and wife Betty Gilg of Carbondale Colorado. He has 5 grandchildren… Adam Shapiro, Whitney Golden, Thomas Schapiro, Ali Schilling, and Julian Collage and 7 great grandchildren… Payson and Porter Golden, Teddy, George, and Poppy Shapiro, Ford and Miller Schilling.
The family would like to thank all of the Cornerstone Hospice caregivers for the care and compassion they showed Stephen in his final days and for the speed in which they worked to initiate his care.
Interment to follow at a later date in St. Louis Missouri.
