More apartments are coming to Spanish Springs Town Square as The Villages Daily Sun prepares to exit its offices after decades at the original town square.
The Citrus Exchange Building, which was home to Margarita Republic downstairs and The Villages Daily Sun newspaper offices upstairs, will reportedly be converted to 17 multi-family apartment units, including 10 two-bedroom units and seven one-bedroom units.

The conversion of the Daily Sun offices to apartments follows the controversial decision to convert the former Katie Belle’s into the Lofts at Van Patten House. Residents of the lofts enjoy full amenity usage in The Villages, but pay a $200 monthly amenity fee.
The Daily Sun is reportedly moving its business offices and newsroom from Spanish Springs to Lake Sumter Landing. Newspaper staffers will be taking over offices previously occupied by the District Government. The government offices recently moved to the old Street of Dream building at Brownwood. The Daily Sun shuttered its print facility on Rolling Acres Road when it relocated its presses to a brand-new facility at the Gov. Rick Scott Industrial Park, located at the Florida Turnpike and Interstate 75 in Sumter County. Church at the Springs is moving into the former print facility on Rolling Acres Road.

The Daily Sun was once ranked as one of the top employers in the Town of Lady Lake, due to the number of employees at the downtown offices combined with the workers, including numerous part-timers, at the press facility on Rolling Acres Road. Those Daily Sun jobs are now moving over to the employment ledger in Sumter County.
The Daily Sun’s move comes at a time of major change at Spanish Springs Towns Square. Last month construction barriers went up at the square, giving it a very different vibe.
