A Summerfield woman was arrested after stealing a baby bag from Target but claiming her “friend” asked her to retrieve her bag.

An officer responded to a theft at Target, located at 716 N U.S. Hwy. 441, on Friday. Jan. 20, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Dispatch advised that a woman matching the description of 36-year-old Sarah Marie Finn left the store and got into the passenger side of a blue Chevrolet.

Once at the store, the officer spoke to an asset protection specialist who gave a more detailed description of Finn. They also stated she came into the building at 5:11 p.m. with a man in a yellow shirt. She picked up two laundry baskets and a Bogg baby bag worth $80, the report said.

Finn paid for everything except for the baby bag before leaving the store at 5:28 p.m. Asset protection came up to her and introduced themselves at the exit doors. She tried to avoid them and fled the scene, but asset protection was able to retrieve the baby bag, the report said.

Meanwhile, another officer was patrolling near Rock and Wash, located at 982 Bichara Blvd., when he spotted a blue Chevrolet Silverado. Further investigation showed Finn matched the description given by asset protection, and she was subsequently detained. The officer at Target went to the scene and confirmed Finn and her vehicle were the same ones seen in the store’s surveillance footage, the report said.

Finn later stated she did not try to steal the bag. Her “friend” called her and told her that she had left her bag inside Target. She told her where it was, and she went to the store to get her “friend’s” bag, the report said.

The Massachusetts native was arrested and charged with petit theft (less than $100). She was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
