Henry Urbanski, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and distinguished scholar, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on October 9, 1937, in pre-war Europe, Henry’s early life was defined by extraordinary courage and determination that allowed him to survive the Holocaust. In 1961, he immigrated with his family to the United States, where he built a remarkable legacy of intellectual achievement and cultural impact.

Henry earned his PhD in Russian Language and Studies from New York University, embarking on a distinguished career as a full professor and department head. A visionary in education, he founded The Language Immersion Institute, a groundbreaking program that revolutionized intensive language learning and inspired countless students worldwide. His passion for fostering cross-cultural understanding left an enduring mark.

In 2005, Henry retired to The Villages, Florida, where he embraced a vibrant and active lifestyle. A passionate athlete, he excelled in biking, golf, table tennis—earning a Florida Senior Games championship—billiards, and bridge. His vibrant energy, infectious enthusiasm, and love for community enriched all who knew him.

Henry is survived by Dorota, his devoted wife of 62 years, whose unwavering love was his anchor. He also leaves behind his son, Andre, daughter, Anne, and four adored grandchildren, who will carry forward his warmth, wisdom, and zest for life.

Henry’s legacy of curiosity, kindness, and devotion to family and learning lives on in all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a language literacy program or charity of your choice in Henry’s memory.
