A man driving a Lexus was killed when an oak tree collapsed onto his vehicle as he was driving in The Villages.
The man was driving a late model Lexus automobile south bound on Marsh Bend Trail near McNeil Drive about 10:10 a.m. Thursday when the large oak tree fell and crushed his vehicle. The Lexus was in a 45 mile-per-hour section of Marsh Bend Trail at the time the accident.
The Villages Public Safety Department and EMS arrived on the scene shortly after the tree fell. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wildwood police officers closed both lanes of Marsh Bend Trail.

Chainsaws were used to remove some of the tree branches but the victim’s body could not be removed until a large bulldozer arrived to lift the massive tree from the vehicle. The man’s body was removed from the crushed car and placed in the Medical Examiner’s van at 1:15 p.m.
The police indicated that the fatality was due to a naturally falling tree.
A constant stream of golf carts and bicycles traveled by the accident scene during the investigation.
