A Wildwood man was arrested after a domestic dispute over food stored in a refrigerator.
James Daniel Mayo III, 23, is facing a charge of assault as a result of the altercation which took this past Sunday at a shared residence at 4760 County Road 121D, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Another man was attempting to free up some space in the refrigerator for an upcoming party and began inquiring about multiple containers of take-out food stored in the refrigerator. The man got an angry reaction from Mayo who “came out of his room yelling and being belligerent.” Mayo ordered that his containers of food be put back in the refrigerator. He then grabbed several food containers and “slammed” them into a trash can. He became “hostile” toward the man who had tried to clear up space in the refrigerator.
Mayo “lunged” at the other man who put up his arms. Mayo “dramatically fell backwards” and caught himself on a marble kitchen counter with his arms. Mayo “started yelling” and threatened “to call the cops.”
There were witnesses to the altercation who told deputies that Mayo has “acted out” in the past. Two of Mayo’s young children were present during the altercation, the report noted.
Mayo was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $50 bond. As a condition of his bond, he was ordered not to return to the residence where the altercation occurred.
