A Lady Lake man was arrested after following a newspaper delivery lady on her route and pointing a gun with a laser at her.
Deputies responded to RaceTrac, located at 324 U.S. Hwy. 27, Lady Lake, to meet with a woman who fled from an armed 42-year-old Ronald Lamar Jones around 3:10 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman stated she was delivering newspapers in the area of Grays Airport Road when a white Subaru SUV came behind her and followed her for about 10 minutes. The vehicle was “acting crazy,” so she stopped her car and got out with a newspaper to try to explain she was simply delivering newspapers. Jones then exited his vehicle and got into a verbal argument with her, the report said.
The delivery lady told him she was going to leave and call 911, to which he pulled out a black handgun with a red laser. He pointed it at her, threatening to shoot her. He ultimately parked in front of a residence on Grays Airport Road, and she fled the area in fear for her life while calling 911, the report said.
Lady Lake police officers found the vehicle in front of 39921 Grays Airport Road, where they located Jones. He claimed a woman in a vehicle had pulled a gun on him. Once more officers got to the scene, he was read his rights and said he wanted to call his lawyer, the report said.
Jones denied consent for law enforcement to search his vehicle. Due to his statement about a woman pulling a gun on him, the delivery lady was also asked for consent to search her vehicle. She agreed, and no firearm was found, the report said.
Jones was arrested on charge of aggravated assault with deadly weapon without intent to kill. The Texas native was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $5,000 bond.
He was also arrested in April 2020 with multiple guns in a marijuana growing operation and in Nov. 2019 when a battle with his wife over a TV got him charged at Comfort Suites.
