Community Development District 1 has been forced to write off $55,535 in fines and costs after the foreclosure of a home in The Villages.

The home at 1324 Balboa Court in the San Pedro Villas in the Village of De La Vista North had been a problem since 2021 when it was initially reported to Community Standards for missing shingles.

The original complaint about the house at 1324 Balboa Court was over missing shingles.

It was purchased for $67,100 in 1993 by Harriet Dice. Dice died and her heir, Kimberly Dice, did not want the home as it had a reverse mortgage and was in foreclosure. Kimberly Dice was assigned ownership of the property in 2019.

The fines began to build up and eventually reached $54,150. There were also $1,385.10 in attorney’s fees and $137 in other costs to CDD 1.

The home was sold for $100 in a foreclosure sale in December at the Sumter County Courthouse to Greenspring Capital Management. There were no surplus funds after the sale to satisfy the lien placed on the home by CDD 1.

The investment company fixed up the house and it sold again on Oct. 2 for $235,000. The home was brought into compliance before the most recent sale.
