A New Yorker previously convicted of theft in New Jersey was arrested at Target at Rolling Acres Plaza in The Villages.

An officer responded to the Target store at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Upon arrival, he made contact with 51-year-old Samantha Davido of Oviedo and the asset protection manager inside an office.

The manager stated Davido was seen walking around the store with no merchandise around 5:30 p.m. She then went through the shoe department to take tags off slippers before heading to the toy department and putting a box of toys in her cart. She also went to the travel section and picked up a travel backpack, the report said.

Davido proceeded to the checkout lane, but put only certain items on the belt for payment. She next made her way to customer service where she tried to return the shoes. She ended up surrendering the merchandise, the report said.

At that point, she passed all points of sale with $266.86 in unpaid items. Asset protection stopped her and took her to their booking room. It was later learned she had two previous shoplifting convictions in New Jersey from 2006 and 2011, the report said.

Davido was arrested on charge of petit theft (third conviction) and transported to Lake County Jail. The New York native was released after posting $2,500 bond.
