A shoplifter in a Walmart cart was nabbed with $427 in stolen merchandise in The Villages.
Violet Rose Gardner, 58, of Lady Lake, was riding in a motorized shopping cart at about 1 p.m. Tuesday when a loss prevention officer saw her stuffing merchandise into reusable shopping bags at the store at Buffalo Ridge Plaza, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
She left the store without paying for the merchandise and was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
In 2024, Gardner was in a motorized shopping cart at Home Depot when she was arrested for shoplifting. She was sentenced to 90 days in jail in that theft case.
She was also convicted of theft in 2017 and 2018, both in Lake County.
