A Villager in a golf cart chased down a FedEx truck and allegedly attacked the driver.
A FedEx driver had been making deliveries on Markridge Loop in the Village of Pennecamp on his normal route when he heard 76-year-old Eugene Frederick Gehrt Jr., who lives on nearby Glenmont Court, yelling at him, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver initially “did not think much of it” and thought Gehrt “was waiting for a package and wanted it early.” The driver stopped the truck and Gehrt pulled up in his golf cart, next to the side of the truck. Gehrt began “yelling” at the FedEx driver and ordered him to get out of the truck.
Gehrt began pointing in the driver’s face and slapped the driver’s hand. Gehrt was using profanity during the exchange, the report said. The driver advised Gehrt, who had stepped into the delivery truck, that there were cameras in his truck recording the interaction. Gehrt responded with profanity and indicated he did not care.
Gehrt later told a deputy he believed the FedEx driver has been driving “too fast” and Gehrt was afraid the driver’s truck would hit his dog.
The Illinois native was arrested Saturday at his home on charges of battery and trespassing. He was released after posting $2,000 bond.
