A Wildwood man was arrested for theft after a deputy discovered he had a stolen $13,881 golf cart in his possession.

A deputy responded to Northeast 56th Drive in Wildwood to follow up on a case at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, he found 46-year-old Jeremy Scott Carpenter working on a $13,881 black golf cart in the driveway.

A resident of the home gave the deputy permission to be on the property, during which he noticed the golf cart was customized as outlined in a warrant related to the case. Carpenter allowed him to look for a serial number, but he could not find it where the manufacturer typically put it. He eventually located it and learned the golf cart had been stolen, the report said.

Carpenter was subsequently arrested for grand theft and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $2,500, along with two holds out of South Carolina.

He was also arrested in Oct. 2023 when a SWAT team was summoned to gunfire during a domestic violence incident.
