A reverse 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday ordered Villagers to shelter in place due to the danger of a chlorine leak.

The 911 calls went ou to residents living within a 1.5 mile radius of Turtle Mound Path in the Village of Duval, located north of County Road 466A near the SeaBreeze Recreation Center.

The Villages Public Safety Department and Sumter Fire & EMS were dispatched to the scene, according Sumter County officials.

Shelter in Place Order – Hazardous Material Release

A hazard used material release has occurred in your area. Public safety officials are actively responding. Take immediate action: Shelter in Place. Go indoors immediately. Close and lock all doors and windows. Turn off air conditioners, heaters, and ventilation systems. Move to an interior room away from windows. Remain indoors until further instructions are provided by local authorities. Do not attempt to travel into or out of the affected area. Monitor official sources for updates and additional instructions.
