The iconic soft-serve ice cream cone building that will house the new Twistee Treat in The Villages is officially rising at Pinellas Plaza as construction on the new facility nears completion.

New photos of the site show the recognizable cone structure is now firmly in place on the north side of Burnsed Boulevard, just over three-quarters of a mile west of Pinellas Place.

Following a site plan recommendation by Special Magistrate Lindsay C.T. Holt in late 2025, crews have moved quickly to transform the half-acre site. The 583-square-foot facility is currently in its final stages, with work focusing on the exterior finishing touches and the surrounding infrastructure.

Villages-News.com first reported news of Twistee Treat in May 2025.

The completed site will offer feature an outdoor patio equipped with tables and a bench. To accommodate high traffic along the County Road 466A corridor, the facility features a dedicated drive-through lane and 17 parking spaces.

This corporate-owned location marks a significant expansion for the Orlando-based company, which was founded 42 years ago and has grown to over 23 Florida sites.

Once open, it will provide a closer option for local residents who currently have to travel to the nearest location in Tavares.

The classic menu at the chain features soft-serve cones, cups, “twirls,” and specialty items like waffle tacos and brownie boat cups. While an exact opening date hasn’t been finalized, the project is moving toward a final shape with expectations of serving sundaes and shakes later this year. Specialties include the brownie boat cup, cookiewich and waffle tacos.

Besides cones and cups, Twistee Treat also offers twirls, slushies, freezes, shakes, malts and sprinkle-covered sundaes.

Originally established in North Fort Myers over four decades ago, Twistee Treat is now headquartered in Orlando. After a rapid expansion led to the opening of 23 Florida restaurants in the early 1980s, the company faced bankruptcy, resulting in the transfer of individual stores to various franchise holders. This structure changed in 2010 when Twistee Treat USA, LLC purchased the company rights and patents, shifting the business model so that all subsequent locations are corporately owned.
