U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on an unlicensed driver from Guatemala who was caught speeding.
An officer stopped 32-year-old Deivin Tomas Rodriguez for speeding near North Main Street around 6:45 p.m., according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Radar confirmed his silver 2006 Hyundai Sonata was going 55 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone.
When asked for his license, Tomas Rodriguez stated he did not have one. He started to show signs of nervousness, like shaking hands and difficulty articulating his words, making the officer suspicious that something else was going on. He was then ordered out of the vehicle and detained so a K-9 unit could check for narcotics, the report said.
The K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, although nothing of the sort was found inside the vehicle. However, the officer discovered three 12-ounce Modelo beers. Two empty cans sat under the passenger seat with a third, cold to the touch and opened, in the driver’s side cupholder. Its contents were subsequently emptied, the report said.
Tomas Rodriguez was arrested on charge of operating a motor vehicle without valid license. The native of Guatemala was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center, where bond was set at $500 and ICE put a hold on him.
