A son is claiming that God directed him to kill his 77-year-old mother in Wildwood.
Jerrylea Vaughn made a frantic call to 911 on Monday night from her home on County Road 116.
“He’s going to kill me,” Vaughn told a dispatcher, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.
When officers arrived at the home, officers found her son, 51-year-old Derek Dewayne Vaughn.
He admitted he had killed his mother using a Damascus bladed butcher knife and a Beretta handgun.
Jerrylea Vaughn was transported by ambulance to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages and was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. Monday.
Her son admitted he had used his late father’s gun and “shot her in the head.” He used the butcher knife to stab “her in the heart.”
He said he had been “instructed by God.”
Vaughn told police his mother was satan.
“I killed the devil,” he said.
He added that God had been “testing” him.
Her son has been arrested on a charge of homicide and booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
