A man from Guatemala who said he has spent more of his life in Florida was arrested after he was caught driving without a license.

A deputy pulled over a white Chevy pickup truck with only one working taillight on U.S.  301 in Oxford around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The driver, 20-year-old Gerson Xoc Ja, identified himself using a United States employment authorization card.

However, he did not have a driver’s license from any U.S. state, a passport with a valid visa, or a driver’s license from another country that could serve as an international license with a visa. He claimed he was in the process of getting a license. He said he has lived in Florida for 20 years, the report said.

Xoc Ja was then arrested on charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. The native of Guatemala was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $500.
