A Villager won’t face prosecution in an alleged stalking incident.
The prosecutor’s office announced earlier this month that it won’t be pursuing a case against 62-year-old Andrew Cecil Benge of the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter. The case is being dropped due to “victim/witness issues.”

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native was originally arrested in 2020 after allegedly stalking his estranged girlfriend multiple times. Benge is accused of showing up at her parents’ home in The Villages. He also reportedly approached her at a restaurant and then stood over her and yelled, “This is The Villages whore!” The woman claimed his behavior traumatized her to the point that she was experiencing restlessness and required medication. Benge also had been arrested twice in Kanas for violating an order of protection.
