The problem son of a couple in The Villages was arrested with methamphetamine after he was spotted riding an unregistered moped.
A deputy observed 40-year-old Jason Robert Eicher of the Village of Rio Ponderosa as he was riding a black 2026 moped through the parking lot of BJ’s Wholesale Club, located at 135858 NE 86th Path, Lady Lake, around 4 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A computer check of the temporary tag attached to the moped determined it had been cancelled. It had been replaced by another plate, which expired on Dec. 31, 2025. Seeing this, the deputy conducted a traffic stop and spoke with Eicher, the report said.
Eicher immediately stated he believed he did not need a license to drive the moped. He said he recently bought it and rarely drives it, the report said.
A subsequent check of his driving history determined his Ohio driver’s license was actively suspended. Eicher advised that he had known his license was suspended for fines for a while. He was then placed under arrest, the report said.
During a search of his person, he stated, “I got a little bit of something in my bag.” He clarified that it was “a little bit of meth” before the deputy went through a leather bag attached to the moped. The bag contained a small crumpled piece of aluminum foil with methamphetamine and a small plastic baggie with fentanyl. A bag under the seat contained three packages of buprenorphine and naloxone sublingual film strips, the report said.
Eicher was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, buprenorphine sublingual film, and drug paraphernalia, as well as driving while license suspended with knowledge. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $5,500.
The Ohio native was arrested earlier this year when he allegedly head-butted a man at a home in The Villages.
