Doretha Strickland, 81, passed away in Sumterville, Florida on May 17, 2026.
She was born in Brooksville, Florida on December 26, 1944, to Travis and Essie Mae Peters. She was a dedicated member of the Door of Hope Church of Lady Lake, FL. Doretha enjoyed drawing, sewing, making handmade cards, collecting antiques and growing flowers. Most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her, Son: Travis Strickland of Bushnell, FL; Daughter, Ashlee Jo Strickland of Bushnell, FL; Sister, Neva Dupree of Lake Wales, FL; Grandchildren, Kehlsey Jensen, Evin Owens, Kristen Owens, and Elijah Danley, as well as 4 Great-Grandchildren, Greyson Day, Brynn Owens, Baylor Owens and Adeline Glickman. Doretha was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Strickland, Jr.; parents, Travis and Essie Mae Peters; along with her sisters, Belva Giddens and Arlene White.
A visitation will be held from 11:00am to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Cross Connection Church in Bushnell, Florida, followed by a memorial service at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to the New Hope Cemetery Association in Istachatta, FL.
