A 26-year-old man was arrested late Friday night after a traffic stop in Wildwood turned up a handgun, nearly 60 grams of marijuana and drug packaging materials.
Prenell Spencer was driving a gold Hyundai at about 11:30 p.m. when he crossed over the solid white stop bar before coming to a stop at the intersection of Fourth Street and County Road 232, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Selective Enforcement Unit officers initiated a traffic stop and immediately detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers noted that Spencer’s hands were shaking excessively as he handed over his driver’s license. When asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle, Spencer told police there was a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard.
Spencer admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. A records check revealed his medical marijuana card was expired.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers recovered a black Glock 19 handgun from a holster on the floorboard. Officers also spotted an opening in the rear seat providing direct access to the trunk compartment. Inside the cutout, they found a glass jar containing 59.26 grams of marijuana, labeled in black marker as “White Wido.”
In addition, officers found an open box of plastic sandwich bags in the driver’s side door, which police noted is commonly used in the packaging and distribution of illegal narcotics.
Spencer was arrested on felony charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and was released after posting $7,000 bond.
