According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was sitting stationary in the median of State Road 44 near County Road 475 at about 10:10 a.m. when he spotted a black Volkswagen SUV traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. The deputy visually estimated the vehicle was traveling at 100 mph. He then activated his radar, which locked in a reading of 104 mph in a posted 60 mph zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the SUV eventually came to a halt near the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 243.

When the deputy made contact with the driver and sole occupant, Shriki handed over an Israeli driver’s license for identification. After being informed of the reason for the stop, Shriki reportedly repeatedly denied that he was traveling at 104 mph.

Shriki was instructed to exit the vehicle and was placed in handcuffs. After being read his Miranda rights, he indicated he understood his rights but declined to speak further with the deputy. A criminal history check revealed he had no prior record.

Shriki was issued a criminal citation for dangerous excessive speeding over 100 mph. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center, where he was booked and held on $500 bond.
