An Ocala woman was arrested after attempting to walk away from law enforcement during a battery investigation.

Officers responded to a battery involving 46-year-old Ana Infante Barrantes at a residence on York Street at 11 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

While interviewing witnesses, officers directed Infante Barrantes to stand in front of a nearby patrol vehicle. She instead began walking toward Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, appearing to head for her daughter’s home in that direction. She did not listen when told to stop by multiple officers, the report said.

She was subsequently handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. Additionally, earlier in the investigation, she had gone to the other involved party’s residence to ask for a cigarette lighter. A verbal argument ensued, and she allegedly poured beer on the other party, escalating the confrontation into a physical altercation. The other party did not wish to pursue charges, the report said.

Infante Barrantes was charged with resist officer without violence and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. The native of Peru was released after posting $1,000 bond.
