To the Editor:

I was disappointed to read the recent letter, “Villager believes MAGA movement dying,” because it contained numerous factual inaccuracies about the June 14 Trump 80th Birthday Golf Cart Parade.

As the parade coordinator, I was never contacted by the newspaper for verification of the claims made in that letter. Had anyone reached out, I could have provided the actual participation numbers and route information.

The writer observed only a small portion of the parade from Lake Sumter Landing and apparently assumed what he saw represented the entire event. In reality, the parade consisted of multiple starting locations throughout the southern portions of The Villages that merged into a continuous procession traveling from Lake Sumter Landing to Brownwood.

The final confirmed count was 3,311 golf carts carrying more than 6,600 participants. Specifically, 2,417 golf carts traveled from Lake Sumter Landing to Brownwood, joined by an additional 590 carts from Ezell Recreation Center and more than 300 from Fenney Recreation Center. The parade route was lined with supporters, many in decorated golf carts, waving flags, cheering participants, and celebrating President Trump’s 80th birthday.

Whether Guinness World Records ultimately certifies the event or not, the turnout speaks for itself. The suggestion that only 101 golf carts participated is simply false. Likewise, the claim that this event demonstrates a dying MAGA movement is contradicted by the thousands of residents who voluntarily participated and the thousands more who came out to watch and support the parade.

Reasonable people can certainly disagree about politics. However, public discussion should be based on accurate information. Readers deserve facts, not conclusions drawn from observing a small fraction of a much larger event. Literally the only thing Casey Marr got correct was that there were two additional starting locations.

The Villages deserves better reporting.
