A man involved in the infamous “Sex on the Square” scandal has been sentenced after another escapade at the same site.

David Alan Bobilya, 61, of Summerfield, pleaded no contest this past week in Sumter County Court to a charge of driving under the influence. He will lose his driver’s license for six months, has been placed on probation for one year and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.

Bobilya will forever be remembered as the younger male half of the 2014 notorious after-hours tryst at the Pavilion at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square. Bobilya was sentenced to six months behind bars for his role in the racy incident involving a married Villager who was nearly 20 years older than him.

Bobilya was back at Lake Sumter Landing on March 1 where he had been “drinking and dancing,” according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

After he’d had his fun for the evening he climbed into a blue 2004 Jeep SUV where he was caught alternating between 28 and 41 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone on Buena Vista Boulevard. His vehicle “jerked” when traveling through the roundabouts.

During a traffic stop, Bobilya admitted he’d consumed two to five beers at the square.

He struggled through field sobriety exercises and became so frustrated at his inability to correctly recite the alphabet, that he began using profanity. He provided breath samples that registered .128 and .127 blood alcohol content.
