A driver was trapped in a car after crashing into a residential unit at the Pebble Springs Retirement Community.
The driver crashed into the building at the retirement community located near the Saddlebrook Recreation Complex at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, prompting an immediate response from The Villages Public Safety Department and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

When the first VPSD unit, Medic 240, arrived on the scene the crew found a passenger vehicle that had crashed into the building and come to rest inside the structure. The vehicle was covered with structural debris, and the driver was trapped inside. Crews also identified exposed electrical hazards, requiring additional safety measures before rescue operations could begin.
Battalion 42 established Incident Command upon arrival, while Tower 40 was assigned to the extrication group and worked to secure electrical hazards to the affected portion of the building.

The VPSD Technical Rescue Team responded to evaluate the structural stability of the building and implement stabilization measures so crews could safely extricate the trapped occupant.
After the building was stabilized, firefighters successfully extricated the driver from the vehicle. The patient was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries for further evaluation. The resident of the impacted apartment was not injured.

Following the extrication, the Technical Rescue Team installed structural shoring inside the building to support the damaged wall. After the vehicle was removed, crews installed additional T-shore stabilization systems to secure the opening and help maintain the structural integrity of the building until permanent repairs could be completed.
Once emergency operations were complete and the structure was stabilized to the extent possible, the scene was turned over to property management.
