
John Martin Tobia, age 95, of The Villages, Lady Lake, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2026.
Born to the late Martin and Margherita Tobia, John lived a life defined by love of family, service to his country, hard work and success, and an unwavering dedication to his family and all whom he cared about. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he engaged in active combat on the front lines. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. His military service was a source of great strength, discipline, and integrity that guided him throughout his life.
On September 5,1969, John married the love of his life, Geraldine E. Tobia. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family and lasting memories. They made their home in New Hyde Park, New York, before moving to Massapequa, New York, and later enjoyed their retirement years together in The Villages, Lady Lake, Florida.
In addition to his beloved wife, Geraldine, John was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Margherita Tobia; his sister, Caroline; and his brother, William.
John leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his son, John Tobia Jr. (Alisha), Buffalo, NY; daughter Karen Sprague (Russel), Brimfield, MA.; brothers Peter Tobia (Annette), Wyndmoor, PA., and Paul Tobia, Bronx, NY; his sister, Sister Mary Rita, Boston, MA.; granddaughters Christina Cao (Tom), Belle Meade, NJ, Gerry Tobia (Matt), East Windsor, NJ; Ryan Sprague (Hayley) Monson, MA; Jessie Hunt (Austin) Brimfield, MA, and Cianna Tobia, Buffalo, NY. He was the proud great-grandfather of Aiden, Madison, Molly, and Sophie each of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
John will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend. He touched the lives of many through his kindness, wisdom, and generous spirit, leaving behind a legacy that will continue through the family he so dearly loved.
John M. Tobia’s life was a testament to honor, commitment, and the enduring power of family.
