Hoppe, 84, of The Villages, FL, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, with her husband by her side.

Born in Shawano, WI, Joan graduated from Shawano High School in 1960, earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, in 1965, and her master’s degree of Fine Arts in Reading Education, in 1974, from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater.

For over 30 years she taught in the Racine School District, in 13 different schools, in the Title I program under the leadership of Al Held, and with fellow professionals Yvone Stone, Jane Hearn and Dasiy Ellis.

Joan retired in 1999 and is a 25-year cancer survivor. She enjoyed basketweaving, gem wrapping, dragon boat racing, with cancer survivor groups in Racine, The Villages, Illinois as well as France and Canada.

Joan especially enjoyed spending time with her family and four grandchildren.

Her family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff at The Villages Hospice House, and the 3600-wing of nurses at UF Spanish Plaines Hospital. Joan also appreciated the special care provided to her from Green Bay Prevea Drs. Lim, Sarhan and Hoppe.

Her survivors include her husband of 60 years, Ronald Hoppe, daughter Jocelyn and son, Dr. Jason Hoppe and his wife Erin of Green Bay, WI, grandchildren, Ewan, Ian, Merryn and Jacquelyn, sisters, Carol Wagnerin of Ladysmith, WI, Ann Whitehouse (Don) of Appleton, WI, and brother, Larry Lemke and his wife Ann of Green Bay, WI.

Our spirit passes the last time our name is spoken.
