To the Editor:
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is now offering free registration for golf carts. I think all CDDs should require golf carts to be registered in order to travel on The Villages’ private MMTPs (Multi-Modal Transportation Paths). This would enable people to uniquely identify golf carts when they crash through an entry gate arm, illegally park or drive in a reckless manner. Currently, it is virtually impossible to uniquely identify individual golf carts. This should be a requirement promoted by the VCCDD staff. Other golf cart communities around the country require registration in order to travel on public streets. I think the counties (Lake, Sumter and Marion) that make up The Villages should likewise require golf carts to be registered in order to travel on their public streets.
