Landscape worker critically injured by falling palm tree in Village of McClure

A man working with a landscaping crew was critically injured Wednesday in a construction-type accident near the intersection of County Road 501 and Corbin Way in the new Village of McClure.

The man was working with a crew to plant large palm trees when one slipped and fell over, striking him in the head and neck region, officials said. It is unclear if the man was wearing a helmet and whether OSHA officials were notified of the accident.

The man was believed to be in cardiac arrest after the incident and was transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center by a paramedic crew from American Medical Response.

An engine crew and battalion chief from The Villages Public Safety Department responded to the call, along with officers from the Wildwood Police Department who were called to offer assistance.
