Weekend sinkhole drains problematic pond in Village of Alhambra

A weekend sinkhole drained a problematic pond in the Village of Alhambra.

A sinkhole has drained a pond in the Village of Alhambra.

Birds have been feasting on fish in what water remains at the pond, which has been plagued with sinkholes since last month’s Hurricane Irma. In September, five sinkholes opened up at a home on Botello Avenue. There were also sinkholes on the pond floor. Dumptrucks hauled in multiple loads of dirt and plugged the sinkholes.

Until this weekend when another sinkhole appeared.

The rain had begun to replenish the pond until the latest sinkhole drained it again.
