The NFL season kicked off this evening with the Denver Broncos hosting the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens got out to an early lead, but a rash of injuries, penalties, and bizarre plays quickly launched the games out of their hands.

Of note were two plays in which Baltimore players ( WR Jones and RT Oher) were injured by other teammates. A controversial completion with 14 minutes left in the 3rd quarter was dismissed on account of the Broncos’ hurry-up offense. Upon review, the football clearly made contact with the ground (making it a dead ball and an incompletion).

Instead, the Broncos moved the chains and scored the second of four unanswered touchdowns, taking advantage of a blocked punt and three consecutive three-and-outs. Three wide receivers on the Broncos had multiple touchdowns (J. Thomas (2), D. Thomas (2), Welker (2)), and Peyton Manning tallied 7 passing touchdowns for the night.

The Manning brothers will square off next week in the Meadowlands, as Eli Manning and the Giants host the Broncos. The Ravens host Brandon Weeden and the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 15.
