A Wildwood man has been arrested in the theft of a golf cart from Lowe’s on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake.
Joshua Steven Mitchell, 21, was spotted Monday morning driving a white golf cart that was pulling a blue golf cart driven by another man on North Main Street at Lion Street near the railroad tracks in Wildwood, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The man who had been in the blue golf cart fled on foot.
That golf cart was determined to be a blue 2018 Club Car that had been stolen on the morning of June 7 at Lowe’s. The owner told police he had driven to work at Lowe’s and parked under a tree at the far southern end of the parking lot where stacks of mulch are located. He stepped out of Lowe’s a few hours later and discovered his golf cart was gone. He still had the key in his pocket. The golf cart is valued at $10,400.
Mitchell was arrested on a charge of grand theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $5,000.
Mitchell had been arrested last year on a charge of drug possession after blowing through a stop sign at Pinellas Plaza.
